In Loving Memory Of

The Little Prince
1980 - December 15, 2003
We love you and miss you!
About Cricket
Cricket was a
Connemara Grey Gelding named "The Little
Prince" AKA Cricket and was 23 years
old. His previous
owners included Hiroko Miller, Glen Griswold and Barbara Siedel.
Hiroko Miller has told us his name was
Cricket's Irish Mist when she bought him from a lady in Ramona, CA in 1992.
We are trying to trace his history and to find out his breeding. We are
also trying to find out if he is a purebred Connemara or a cross. He
used to live in the San Diego area, and was a hunter.
We acquired him (for the princely sum of $1.00) because he
was not suitable for the 4H Riding For The Handicapped Program.
He began dressage training in January 2001, as did Bree.
In the first year he bucked Bree off a lot!
She learned that he was not suitable for jumping, because he became too crazy!

on Cricket.
The Little Prince tore his check ligament in April
2003 and because of the extra weight he put on his opposite leg he developed
Opposite Leg Laminitis. Unfortunately his coffin bone sunk and rotated.
(Nov. 2003). Crickets Vet, Dr. Carpenter from Peninsula Equine,
recommended that we fill Crickets stall with sand to support his feet and to
help relieve the pain. On December 3, 2003, Crickets stall had an extreme
makeover, with the cooperation of Westwind
Barn and the results were almost immediate. He was in a lot less pain
and much happier! He was also now able to look out of the window because
of the 6" of sand, which is good because he was confined to the stall for now.
Cricket's farrier, Bill McCleary, removed the shoes.
Dr. Carpenter was very positive about Crickets
recovery after she visited him in his sandbox, and saw his improvement
He did
seem to be more comfortable and much happier, but on Dec. 13, 2003, he took a
sudden turn for the worse. He was in extreme pain and unable to walk and there
was nothing more we or the vet could do for him. We are all devastated and
we miss him every day.
Cricket lost his battle on
December 15, 2003.
